The Cozy Questlog is my learning-in-public blog about cozy tabletop games, cozy fantasy stories, and the craft of community-first adventures. Here you’ll find reflections, recommendations, play recaps, game reviews, design essays, and narrative thoughts, all in pursuit of worlds where care, connection, and commonplace magic matter.
I’m Kasey Wildgrove (she/they), a TTRPG designer, game writer, layout designer, essayist, blogger, and fiction writer based in Central Florida. I’m also the founder and solo creator behind Appleford Hearth Studio.
I’m especially interested in cozy and folk fantasy, hopeful and reflective stories, character-focused games, nonviolent play, and games in which violence is optional rather than assumed. My work explores community, purpose, growth, belonging, ordinary people, and the ways we find or make meaning.
When I use the word “cozy,” I don’t mean that nothing difficult ever happens. Instead, I’m interested in stories and games that turn their attention toward care, connection, hope, and the challenges and opportunities of everyday people. These experiences may still include sadness, uncertainty, conflict, and especially melancholy, but they are less interested in combat and loot than in observation, conversation, reflection, and the relationships people build with one another.
The Cozy Questlog is also a place where I learn in public. I write about the games I play, the stories I read, and the process of creating and publishing my own work. That includes reflecting on what works, what doesn’t work for me, what I’m learning, and how those lessons shape my approach to game design, writing, layout, and publishing.
Through Appleford Hearth Studio, I create games and stories that encourage reflection. These character-driven experiences offer a unique and grounded perspective on a magical medieval fantasy world, giving players space to interpret what happens, have conversations, observe, reflect, and find their own answers.
The studio’s current flagship title is Awakened Applewood, a cozy-melancholy solo journaling game centered on the experience of learning personhood as a newly alive sacred statue.
